T. Haviland Hicks, Senior

T. Haviland Hicks, Senior is a gleeful romp through early 20th-century collegiate life, centered on the irrepressible T. Haviland Hicks Jr., a Bannister College student whose talent for mischief is matched only by his talent for making noise. The novel opens with Hicks singing cowboy ballads at the top of his lungs and strumming a banjo at an hour when decent folk are still abed, driving Butch Brewster, the football captain, to the edge of sanity. What follows is a series of collegiate adventures where Hicks navigates friendship, competition, and responsibility while chasing the twin goals of social dominance and athletic glory. The arrival of Thor, a tremendous new player Hicks has promised to deliver, raises the stakes for the football team and sets the narrative in motion. Elderdice captures the boisterous energy of young men finding their place in the world, balancing humor with the genuine bonds of campus camaraderie.
