Spacehounds of IPC

The Inter-Planetary Corporation's flagship Arcturus is heading to Mars on a routine flight when it encounters something far from routine, a mysterious alien vessel that attacks without warning. The liner crash-lands on Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon, leaving survivors scattered across an alien landscape. Steve, a young computer expert, and Nadia, a passenger thrust into catastrophe, must work together to stay alive amid primeval terrors and the omnipresent threat that their attackers may still be hunting them. But the greatest challenge lies ahead: they must construct an entirely new spacecraft from salvage and find a way to deal with the ancient, warring intelligences of the Jovian system. E.E. Smith wrote with the kinetic energy of early space opera at its most propulsive, technical, adventurous, unapologetically grand. This is the novel that gave science fiction the term "tractor beam," and it remains a rousing adventure that helped birth a genre.
