Sappho: A New Rendering
Sappho: A New Rendering features translations of the surviving fragments of Sappho, a rare female poet from ancient Greece, who lived on the Aeolian islands. Although her poetry was celebrated in antiquity, only a few fragments remain today. This collection also includes Ovid's fictional poem 'Sappho to Phaon,' which presents a letter from Sappho to her lover. The work highlights Sappho's enduring influence and the challenges of preserving female voices in literature.
