Runaway

Runaway, written by Hannah Cowley in 1776, is her first play, premiered at Drury Lane. The story follows George Hargrave, who wishes to marry Emily, a runaway and ward of his godfather, but faces opposition from his father, who wants him to marry the wealthy Lady Dinah. The play's success led Cowley to write two more plays within the same year, marking her as a notable figure in early 18th-century theater.
