In the sun-baked valleys of California, a group of settlers fights to build a life from the land. Fruit farms stretch across the countryside, but blight and insects turn hope into desperation. But the gold they seek draws not just treasure-hunters but enemies, and the settlers must fight to survive. This is old-fashioned adventure at its most thrilling: a tale of frontier courage, of ordinary people tested beyond their limits, and of the golden dreams that drove men into the wilderness. Fenn writes with the breathless energy of a storyteller who knows exactly how to keep you turning pages.
