Orphans of the Storm

Paris, 1789. The city trembles on the edge of revolution, and two sisters orphaned by plague dream of a better life within its walls. Henriette and Louise Girard have only each other: Henriette fierce and protective, Louise gentle and blind, their bond the only family either has ever known. But Paris is not the city of their dreams. It is a place of aristocrats and abductors, of Committee chambers and guillotines, where two young women with nothing but each other must fight to survive. This is melodrama at its most operatic: a story where innocence is perpetually threatened, where the French Revolution becomes both backdrop and antagonist, and where the question of whether love and sacrifice can triumph over class war hangs in every chapter. MacMahon, writing from the shadow of Griffith's ambitious silent film, weaves a tale of contrasting fates, ruthless villains, and the terrible vulnerability of those caught between a dying world and one yet to be born.
