Memoirs of a Griffin: Or, a Cadet's First Year in India

Memoirs of a Griffin: Or, a Cadet's First Year in India, published in 1843 by Francis John Bellew, is a semi-autobiographical account that blends fact and fiction to portray the experiences of young military cadets in British India. The narrative follows Francis Gernon as he navigates the challenges and humorous misadventures of being a newcomer, or 'griffin,' in a foreign land. Through a mix of anecdotes and reflections, Bellew captures the social intricacies and cultural misunderstandings faced by these cadets during their formative year in the British military.
