Madame Gilbert's Cannibal

Madame Gilbert's Cannibal, published in 1920 by Bennet Copplestone, is a novel that blends humor and drama in the context of early 20th-century British society. The story follows Madame Gilbert, a confident woman emerging from wartime service, as she navigates a social crisis involving a half-caste heir to an ancient peerage, raised in a primitive environment. The narrative explores themes of identity, class, and the absurdity of social norms through Madame Gilbert's adventurous journey and her interactions with a lawyer entangled in the legal complexities of aristocracy and a 'cannibal' lordship from the Torres Straits.
