Lost House

Lost House, written by Richard Harding Davis, follows Austin Ford, a journalist for the New York Republic, who discovers a note pleading for help from a young girl allegedly imprisoned in a lunatic asylum by her uncle. Set in the early 20th century, the story explores themes of captivity and the pursuit of truth as Ford becomes determined to investigate the claim despite skepticism from others. The novella highlights Davis's skill in blending suspense with social commentary, making it a notable work of its time.
