Little Greta of Denmark

Little Greta of Denmark opens on a farm at dawn, where a girl named for a queen wakes with a simple wish: to grow tall. But her happy morning shatters when she discovers her four kittens have vanished from their straw bed in the barn and her dog Chouse is nowhere to be found. As the hours crawl by, Greta's imagination conjures the Nisser, those mischievous Danish household spirits who might have taken her pets. The story follows her through a school day with her brother Hans, through worries both reasonable and wild, as she searches for what she loves. This is a book about the enormous weight of small fears and the stubborn hope of childhood, wrapped in the gentle magic of Danish countryside life.
