Harbor of Doubt
On a small island where everyone knows everyone's name, Code Schofield lost his schooner to an Atlantic gale. That should be the end of it. But the sea keeps its secrets, and so do the people left behind. Months after the May Schofield went down, the whispers have grown teeth. Insurance investigators have arrived. Friends who once owed Code their lives now cross the street to avoid him. Even those who've known him since childhood look at him differently now, searching his face for answers he may not have. Code finds himself on trial not in any courtroom, but in the grocery store, on the dock, in the church pews where he's worshiped his whole life. The question isn't just what happened out there in the storm. The question is whether a man can survive being doubted by everyone who ever believed in him.
