Gold-Seeking on the Dalton Trail: Being the Adventures of Two New England Boys in Alaska and the Northwest Territory

It's 1898 and the Klondike strike has sent thousands north. Two New England boys, David and Roly, receive a letter from their uncle already mining in the Alaskan wilderness, he's built a cabin at Wolf Creek, found color in the creek, and he wants the family to join him. What follows is a boy's-own-adventure through some of the most unforgiving terrain in North America: the Dalton Trail, that ragged path through coastal mountains and interior wilderness that few traveled and fewer survived. The boys face marauding wolf packs, learn to hunt porcupines, and discover that building a log cabin in minus forty requires a courage no New England school has taught them. Arthur Thompson wrote from memory and muscle, and it shows on every page. This is frontier adventure as it actually felt, the bone-deep cold, the relentless work, the terrifying beauty of a landscape that doesn't care if you live or die. For readers who dream of a wilder America, one that existed before roads and smartphones, this book is a portal. It belongs beside Jack London: proof that the best adventures are true ones, told by people who lived them.
