Far Past the Frontier

In the spring of 1790, two boys leave Connecticut with nothing but a dream and a rifle between them. Ree Kingdom and John Jerome are headed for the Ohio River Valley, into a wilderness that claims the careless and rewards only the stubborn. They want land, adventure, a life beyond the reach of eastern law. What they find is something else entirely. Before they even reach the territory, they stumble into the wake of Big Pete Ellis, a murderer with a price on his head and nothing left to lose. The boys make a choice that will bind their fates to his: help bring him to justice, or let the frontier swallow another victim. Captain Bowen warns them that the wilderness ahead holds perils enough without chasing ghosts, but youth has its own kind of courage, the kind that mistakes resolve for wisdom.
