Cupid in Africa

Cupid in Africa, written by Percival Christopher Wren, follows Bertram Greene, a shy and intellectual young man who joins the colonial Indian Army Reserve at the onset of World War I to gain his father's approval. Lacking training, he is sent to India and later to East Africa, where he learns the realities of soldiering amidst the challenges of tropical warfare. This novel, published in the early 20th century, offers a vivid portrayal of military life and conditions, reflecting Wren's own experiences as a soldier. Wren is also known for his popular Beau Geste series.
