Cruise of the Corwin
The Cruise of the Corwin is John Muir's 1881 account of his expedition aboard the steamer Thomas Corwin, which journeyed from San Francisco to the Arctic in search of the lost ship Jeannette. Muir's narrative details his explorations of uncharted territories, including climbing mountains, sketching glaciers, and observing wildlife such as polar bears and walruses. He also documents his encounters with Inuit culture and the harsh realities faced by indigenous peoples. Compiled posthumously by William F. Bade in 1914, this work captures the spirit of exploration during the last days of the American frontier.
