Burglar and the Blizzard
A young millionaire returns to his country estate during a blizzard, expecting to find it empty. Instead, he discovers a burglar settled comfortably in his library, absorbed in a book. The thief is no stranger: Billy McVay, an old schoolmate whose life has taken a far darker turn than Holland's own privileged path. As the snow piles high and isolation closes in, McVay makes an urgent plea: his sister is stranded in a ramshackle cottage nearby, and the storm shows no sign of breaking. What begins as a confrontation between thief and homeowner becomes something stranger and more tender: a test of old loyalties, a reckoning with class and circumstance, and a desperate ride through the white chaos to find a woman neither man truly knows. Miller weaves tension, romance, and social commentary into this compact tale of two men and one impossible night.
