This volume, the ninth of sixteen, features tales told by Shahrazad to her husband Shahryar, using cliff-hangers to delay her execution. Notable stories such as 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves' and the adventures of 'Sinbad the Sailor' originate from this collection. The work reflects a rich amalgamation of mythology and folklore from the Indian subcontinent, Persia, and Arabia, with no original manuscript ever discovered.
