Bobby Blake on a Plantation; Or, Lost in the Great Swamp
1922
After a hard-won football victory, Bobby Blake and his friends from Rockledge School are riding high on adrenaline and camaraderie. But the thrill doesn't last long. Word arrives of a boat in trouble on the water, and without hesitation, Bobby springs into action, rallying his friends for a rescue that will test their nerve and prove his natural leadership. This is Warner doing what he does best: pitting likable kids against real danger and letting character emerge through action. The adventure then takes Bobby south, to a sprawling plantation where the landscape shifts from manicured grounds to the murky mystery of the Great Swamp. Separated from his friends and navigating unfamiliar territory, Bobby must rely on his wits and courage to find his way. The plantation setting gives the story its atmosphere, but the swamp is where the real stakes emerge. It's a classic setup from the boys' adventure tradition Warner was working in, full of close calls, hidden dangers, and the satisfaction of a resourceful kid proving himself against the odds.
