Army Boys on German Soil: Our Doughboys Quelling the Mobs

December 1918. The Great War has ended, but for the American soldiers occupying Coblenz along the Rhine, peace feels more like a silent war. When Frank Sheldon and his patrol are ambushed during a routine evening sweep through hostile streets, the 'Army Boys' realize the defeated enemy hasn't surrendered their pride. A conspiracy emerges from the shadows: armed German plotters are planning an uprising, and the young Americans must stop it before it ignites. Rigorous drills replace liberty. The town tightens like a fist. Every shadow hides a threat. Written in 1920, just two years after the armistice, this is a fascinating time capsule of how American juvenile fiction processed victory and occupation, told through the eyes of young soldiers who are barely older than its readers. It's a rousing adventure that doubles as a window into a vanished era's assumptions about duty, enemy, and home.
