Ali Baba, or the Forty Thieves

In a world where wealth determines worth, a poor woodcutter stumbles upon more gold than he could spend in ten lifetimes. But keeping it means outwitting forty thieves determined to reclaim their hoard and the brother who would see him dead. This is the tale that launched a thousand adventure stories: Ali Baba discovers the secret cave with its magic words, 'Open Sesame,' and claims a fortune that should belong to robbers. What follows is a deadly game of cat and mouse, with assassins crawling through oil jars and poisoned wine at every turn. Yet the true hero emerges from the most unlikely place: Morgiana, a servant girl with nothing but her wits and courage. She transforms from overlooked slave to the brilliant mind who thwarts murder attempts and orchestrates the thieves' doom. The story asks what wealth truly means, whether the poor deserve their station, and how far revenge should go before it becomes its own punishment. It endures because it imagines a world where cleverness defeats cruelty, where the marginalized rise, and where one clever phrase can open doors to entirely new lives.
