20 Hrs., 40 Min.: Our Flight in the Friendship: The American Girl, First Across the Atlantic by Air, Tells Her Story

In June 1928, a young woman from Kansas climbed aboard a rickety Fokker trimotor named Friendship and flew into history. This is her account, written fresh from the cockpit, when the Atlantic was still being conquered one daring flight at a time and the word "aviator" meant something dangerous and new. Amelia Earhart was not the pilot that day that.wild Atlantic crossing she flew as a passenger, bundled in a sailor's suit to stay warm but glowing with the extraordinary fact of her presence. Yet the flight made her famous overnight and inaugurated one of the most remarkable lives in American history. Through these pages, she introduces the men who made it possible, the grueling preparation, and the strange suspension between terror and wonder that comes from trusting your life to an engine and the sky. There is also the quiet, persistent thread of being a woman in a world built by men, learning to claim space in cockpits and record books. Eighty years later, her disappearance remains a mystery, but this book captures her at the beginning, when the future was still unwritten and the only certainty was a runway and a dream.
