Zehru of Xollar

A New York subway platform. Two strangers waiting for a train on an ordinary evening. Then the tunnels erupt in blinding green flame, and Robert Blake and Helen Lawton are torn across the void to a world called Xollar. They wake in a strange enclosure surrounded by bizarre creatures, all controlled by a gelatinous core of alien intelligence. And they soon learn they are not guests but prisoners of Zehru, a monstrous alien scientist who has waited eons for human bodies to inhabit. Blake must decipher the biology of Xollar's horrors, find the creature's weakness, and outwit a being who has never known failure. The atmosphere itself becomes a weapon. The gate home becomes their only hope. This is early pulp science fiction at its most delirious: alien worlds rendered with wide-eyed wonder and genuine dread, a desperate求生 battle against the incomprehensible, and two ordinary people from 1930s New York fighting not just for their lives but for the survival of their very species.
