Virgilia; Or, out of the Lion's Mouth
The Roman Circus roars with bloodlust as young Virgilia watches gladiators die beneath the indifferent sun. She is the daughter of Aurelius, a respected Roman lawyer, raised on the prayers of Jupiter and Mars. But something she has seen in the Christian catacombs has cracked her faith wide open. Now she must choose: the comfortable pagan world of her parents, or a dangerous new God who asks for everything. When Virgilia publicly aligns herself with the despised Christians, her mother Claudia's love curdles into fury, and her father's silence cuts deeper than any blade. The Empire tolerates no rivals to the old gods. To follow Christ means to walk into the lion's mouth and trust she will not be devoured. This is a story of rupture and reckoning, of what it costs to honor your conscience when it means betraying everyone who made you.
