The White Feather Hex

Peter Scheinberger knows the old ways. As a Pennsylvania Dutch farmer, he's inherited more than land he's inherited the secrets his ancestors kept buried. When Martin G. Mirestone arrives at his door, obsessed with uncovering the secrets of the white feather hex, Peter recognizes a man already half-consumed by darkness. Mirestone doesn't want to understand the hex. He wants to see it work. What unfolds is a tense, chilling confrontation between a man who respects the boundaries of ancient power and a man who believes knowledge belongs to whoever demands it most loudly. Peter reluctantly reveals what he knows, and Mirestone's true hunger is exposed: he wants a witness to death, not just a lesson in folklore. The ritual demands blood. Someone will pay. Peterson crafts genuine dread from the soil of American folk horror, building tension through dialogue and the weight of what remains unsaid. The white feather hex isn't spectacle it's consequence, and Mirestone's insistence on seeing it through leads both men toward a conclusion that offers no redemption, only the cold satisfaction of tragedy fulfilled. For readers who savor Gothic restraint and the horror of men who cannot stop themselves.
