The Ward of King Canute: A Romance of the Danish Conquest

England, 1016. The Danish armies are sweeping across the island, and Randalin has lost everything: her father, her home, her people. A Danish noblewoman now sits in an English prison, a prize of war, with only her fury to sustain her. But Randalin refuses to weep or yield. She swears revenge against the men who destroyed her family and sets her sights on King Canute himself, believing only the great Danish conqueror can restore her father's honor. Yet in this darkest hour, fate delivers an unexpected blow: she finds herself drawn to an English nobleman, her enemy by every law of blood and loyalty. What begins as calculated intrigue becomes something neither expected. Ottilie A. Liljencrantz crafts a tale where vengeance and tenderness collide, where a woman must navigate between her people's conquest and her own forbidden heart. The novel captures a lost moment when Danish and Anglo-Saxon cultures violently collided, exploring identity, displacement, and the personal costs of empire through a heroine who refuses to be merely a victim of history.
