The Vortex
Noël Coward's incendiary 1924 drama plunges into the decadent, drug-fueled world of London's post-WWI elite. We meet Nicky Lancaster, a young musician returning from Paris with a new fiancée, Bunty, to find his socialite mother, Florence, desperately clinging to youth and a string of affairs. Beneath the glittering surface of their lives, a tempest brews: Nicky nurses a burgeoning cocaine addiction and a simmering resentment, while Florence's vanity and dissatisfaction threaten to unravel her carefully constructed facade. As their codependent relationship spirals, Coward exposes the brittle nature of their privilege and the devastating consequences of lives lived for appearance's sake, culminating in a raw, emotional confrontation that shatters their gilded cage.
