The Sweet and Touching Tale of Fleur & Blanchefleur: A Mediæval Legend Translated from the French

This is a 13th-century French romance, one of those medieval tales where love is both salvation and catastrophe. The story follows two children thrown together by conquest: Fleur, heir to a pagan Spanish king, and Blanchefleur, daughter of a Christian woman captured in battle. Raised side by side in the king's household, their childhood friendship deepens into something the king cannot abide. When he discovers their love and sells Blanchefleur to merchants bound for distant lands, Fleur must choose between his birthright and the girl who has become his whole world. What follows is a quest narrative threaded with peril: a powerful admiral who would make Blanchefleur his bride, ships lost to storms, years of searching across a medieval world where faith and violence constantly collide. The tale reaches toward its conclusion through trials that test not just devotion, but the capacity to remain oneself while becoming someone new. It is, beneath its surface, a story about what love costs and what it builds in return.
