The Red Fox's Son: A Romance of Bharbazonia

Set in the imaginary Kingdom of Bharbazonia, this 1911 romance weaves political intrigue through the story of two college friends reunited under ominous circumstances. Doctor Dale Wharton narrates his memories of Nicholas Fremsted, a man whose mysterious royal bloodline threatens to upend the kingdom's succession. When Nicholas returns from years abroad, he brings secrets that could reshape Bharbazonia's future, particularly as the coronation of a new king looms. The novel traces their profound friendship against a backdrop of unseen dangers, hidden identities, and the weight of destiny. What emerges is a meditation on loyalty and belonging: what does it mean to serve a kingdom that may not know your true name? Dilley crafts his fictional realm with the earnestness of early twentieth-century adventure fiction, offering readers an escape into a world where personal bonds are tested by political forces beyond individual control. The novel will appeal to those who enjoy the romantic sweep of vanished empires and the quiet drama of men navigating honor in uncertain times.
