The Putnam Tradition

The Putnam Tradition, written by Sonya Dorman in the early 1960s, is a short story that explores the generational legacy of the Putnam family. Set in a coastal house passed down through matriarchs, it delves into themes of family ties, tradition, and the tension between old customs and modern influences. The narrative follows three generations of women: Cecily, the traditional grandmother; Simone, the granddaughter navigating her identity; and Nina, the great-granddaughter with psychic abilities that challenge family heritage. The story concludes with a hopeful connection between past and future traditions.
