Aeschylus
458
Translated by E. D. A. Morshead
The Oresteia is a trilogy of Greek tragedies written by Aeschylus in 458 BC. It is the only complete trilogy of ancient Greek plays to have survived. The trilogy consists of Agamemnon, The Choephori (The Libation-Bearers), and Eumenides. It tells the story of the House of Atreus, tracing the curse on the family through the murder of Agamemnon by his wife Clytemnestra, the vengeance taken by their son Orestes, and his eventual acquittal by the goddess Athena.
