The Moons of Mars

A security officer on colonised Mars encounters something that should not exist: a Martian boy who can whistle. The impossible sound draws him into an investigation that uncovers a trail of violence, betrayal, and the harsh realities of life on a world where humans are intruders. The boy is half-human, son of a Martian father now dead and a human mother who has vanished into the red dust. As the officer digs deeper, he discovers the murder at the story's heart is tangled with colonial exploitation and a man named Harry Smythe whose past glories in darkness. The whistling becomes the book's beating heart: a sound of innocence that should not exist, expressed by a child who belongs to neither world.
