The Mermaid: A Love Tale

On the remote coast of Prince Edward's Island, young Caius Simpson has been raised on strict morality and quiet introspection. But nothing in his father's teachings prepares him for the day he stumbles upon a bleak farm and witnesses the devastating consequences of despair a woman driven to unthinkable acts. This encounter cracks open his sheltered world, awakening in him a profound empathy for human suffering that he cannot turn away from. As Caius grapples with the dark realities hidden beneath the surface of coastal life, he encounters something impossible: a mermaid whose beauty and mystery embody both the longing and the danger of love itself. What begins as a meditation on grief and morality becomes something stranger and more luminous a tale of two beings reaching across an impossible divide. Dougall writes with atmospheric precision, weaving the harsh Atlantic landscape with psychological depth to create a story that lingers like the sea.
