The Lost Door

A haunting 1930s Gothic novella that reads like a fever dream in French castles. Dorothy Quick spins a tale of obsession, fate, and the deadly allure of the past. When Jim inherits the crumbling château of Rougemont under peculiar conditions from his estranged father, he arrives with his friend Wrexler expecting nothing more than dusty inheritance paperwork. Instead, they find themselves tangled in a centuries-old curse. The ghost of Helene d'Harcourt - beautiful, tragic, and cursed to wander the estate forever - draws Wrexler into her orbit with an intensity that grows increasingly terrifying. As he pieces together her tragic backstory and the forbidden love that doomed them both, he discovers the enigmatic Lost Door that may hold the key to her release. But some doors, once opened, cannot be closed. Quick writes with unsettling precision about desire that crosses the boundary between the living and the dead, and the question of whether any love is worth the price of eternity.
