The Imitator: A Novel

The Imitator, published in 1901 by Percival Pollard, is a satirical novel that critiques high society's obsession with imitation and appearances. The story follows Orson Vane and Jeannette Vanlief as they navigate a world where social status and clever façades overshadow genuine connection. Through sharp dialogue and a blend of humor and tension, the narrative explores themes of identity, authenticity, and the impact of societal expectations on personal relationships. The novel raises questions about what it means to be true to oneself in a society that rewards imitation.
