The Heart of Arethusa

The Heart of Arethusa, written by Frances Barton Fox in the early 20th century, follows the life of Arethusa, a young girl living under the strict supervision of her aunts on a farmhouse. The novel explores her adventurous spirit and desire for independence as she navigates family dynamics and the constraints imposed by her relatives, particularly her strict Aunt Eliza. Arethusa's longing for freedom and personal fulfillment is set against the backdrop of her father's recent marriage and the changes it brings to her life.
