The Hazeley Family

The Hazeley Family, published in 1894 by A. E. Johnson, is a novel centered on Flora Hazeley, a young girl who returns to her indifferent family home after living with her loving aunt. As she confronts the emotional distance of her mother and brothers, Flora strives to restore joy and responsibility within her family while forming a friendship with her neighbor, Ruth Rudd. This work is notable for its portrayal of African American family dynamics and its use of non-racial characters to challenge stereotypes prevalent in the late 19th century.
