Tacitus' Histories
Tacitus' Histories, written between 110 and 100 B.C., chronicles the tumultuous Year of Four Emperors following Nero's downfall, detailing the rise of Vespasian and the Flavian Dynasty through to Domitian's death in 96 A.D. Only the first four books and part of the fifth survive, focusing on the events of 69 and early 70 A.D. The fifth book includes an ethnographic survey of the ancient Jews from a Roman perspective, providing insight into Roman views of their subjects during this period of political upheaval.
