A collection of short stories written in the late 19th century. The collection features works by various Finnish authors and delves into themes of human emotion, familial bonds, and the complexities of life in rural settings. The opening of the collection introduces the story ''Uusi isä'' by Liisa Tervo, which centers around a young girl named Elsa as she anticipates her uncle's return from the city. While waiting, Elsa interacts with her cousins, expressing excitement and longing for her uncle’s gifts. As the story unfolds, her reflections reveal a deeper emotional conflict regarding the memory of her deceased father and the prospect of a new father figure. This initial story sets a tone of innocence marked by the challenges of growing up, memory, and the dynamics of family relationships.
