Spuk

Published in 1922, 'Spuk' by Klabund, the pseudonym of Alfred Henschke, explores the blurred lines between reality and metaphysical visions through the eyes of a narrator recovering from a collapse at a cabaret. Haunted by guilt over his wife's death and memories of a joyless childhood, he grapples with his deteriorating health and the effects of medication in a harrowing narrative. Written during a period of illness, the novel is notable for its stark language and intense atmosphere, reflecting Klabund's own struggles with tuberculosis. The book contains graphic descriptions and is not suitable for sensitive readers.
