Slave Is a Slave

Slave Is a Slave
The Galactic Empire has come to reclaim the lost colony of Aditya, a world forgotten for a thousand years. What they find is a society where nearly everyone is a slave to a few thousand Lords Master, an economy built entirely on bondage. The Empire's Constitution is clear: slavery is forbidden. Freedom will be given. Case closed. Except the title asks a question the Empire hasn't considered: slave is a slave. What happens when you give freedom to people who have never known anything else? Who will grow the food, build the roads, run the machines? Piper's short novel is a sharp, unsettling piece of thinking person's science fiction that refuses the easy answer. It's not about good empires liberating oppressed masses. It's about what happens when ideals meet reality, when freedom becomes just another word for nothing left to lose, and when the people being "saved" might not want to be saved at all.
