See?

Four men riding the rails Eddie, the narrator; a former professor reduced to wandering; Dirty Pete; and Sacks find something impossible on the road. It's a small object, smooth and unremarkable, except it looks different to each of them. What Eddie sees as a coin, the professor sees as a medal. What Dirty Pete sees terrifies him. As they argue about what the thing actually is, a darker realization settles in: the object is watching them back. It's a telepathic alien, shapeless and alone, trying to understand humans by letting them define it. The men do the only logical thing left to outcasts in a world that won't take them seriously: they form the Commission for the Investigation of Extraterrestrial Invasion. It's an absurdist tale about perception who sees truth when everyone sees differently? And what happens when the universe itself seems to be asking the same question.
