Ring of the Niblung

Ring of the Niblung

Richard Wagner

This is the legendary Ring Cycle, the most ambitious work in opera history. Wagner spent over two decades crafting this epic of four operas meant to be experienced across four days. At its heart lies a cursed ring forged from Rhinegold, a treasure that drives gods, giants, dwarves, and heroes toward mutual destruction. The dwarf Alberich, spurned by love, steals the gold and shapes it into a ring that binds all who possess it to ruin. Wotan, the king of the gods, schemes to secure the treasure for himself, even as he sets in motion events that will bring down his entire pantheon. The drama unfolds through Siegfried, the hero who kills the dragon Fafner and claims the ring, and Brünnhilde, the Valkyrie who defies the gods for love. What unfolds is nothing less than the destruction of the world the gods built - and perhaps, through love's ultimate sacrifice, its redemption.
