Rebels of the Red Planet

The red world has its own rules. Two Earth agents, S. Nuwell Eli and Maya Cara Nome, are sent to Mars to locate the headquarters of the Phoenix rebels a group fighting to free the planet from Earth's control. But they find something far stranger than a simple insurgency. The rebellion is led by Dark Kensington, a figure who returned from apparent death after twenty-five years, raising an unsettling question: was he resurrected, mutated, or transformed into something no longer human? The planet itself seems to breed the impossible: genetic experiments abandoned by Earth's governments, survivors warped by radiation and neglect, and a growing sense that the line between oppressor and oppressed has long since blurred. Fontenay builds his Mars as a crucible where humanity's worst impulses and best instincts collide, told with the stripped-down urgency of 1960s adventure fiction. This is classic pulp SF doing what it does best: using the unknown to interrogate the known, and the alien to reveal the all-too-human.
