R.U.R.
Karel Čapek's seminal 1920 play, *R.U.R.*, introduces us to Rossum's Universal Robots, an island-based corporation churning out artificial, human-like workers that are swiftly becoming indispensable globally. When the idealistic Helena Glory arrives, determined to advocate for the robots' 'souls,' she unexpectedly falls for the factory manager, Harry Domin. Her well-intentioned quest to imbue these tireless laborers with humanity, however, sets off an irreversible chain of events that spirals into a profound, and ultimately catastrophic, redefinition of what it means to be human—and who truly deserves to inherit the Earth.
