Prose Edda (Brodeur Translation)
The Prose Edda, also known as the Younger Edda, is a thirteenth-century work by Icelandic scholar Snorri Sturluson. It serves as a critical source of Norse mythology, complementing the earlier Poetic Edda. The text is divided into three parts: Gylfaginning, which covers the creation of the world; Skáldskaparmál, a dialogue on skaldic poetry; and Háttatal, a trilogy of heroic poetry (not included in this translation). This translation by Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur highlights the influence of the Eddas on European literature, including J.R.R. Tolkien's works.
