Prisoner of Chillon

Prisoner of Chillon
Prisoner of Chillon is a poem by George Gordon, Lord Byron, inspired by his visit to the Castle of Chillon in Switzerland in 1816. The poem recounts the legend of Francis Bonnivard, a political prisoner held in the castle during medieval times. Originally published in 1816, the collection was later extended after Byron's death, with the final poem written on his 36th birthday, just three months before he passed away. This work is notable for its exploration of themes of freedom and confinement.
