Peter Voß, Der Millionendieb: Roman

A novel written in the early 20th century. The story revolves around the character Peter Voß, a clever and resourceful man who devises an audacious plan to ''steal'' two million dollars in order to save his employer, Jim Stockes, from bankruptcy. As Voß navigates this high-stakes scheme, the plot delves into themes of deception, cleverness, and the complexities of human relationships. The opening of the novel presents a tense scene set in the offices of a bank where Jim Stockes and Peter Voß discover a significant shortfall in the funds needed to pay a large debt. Voß, rather calmly, confronts Stockes about the missing two million dollars, which leads to a shocking proposal—Voß plans to fake a theft of the money to buy time for Stockes and utilize the ensuing chaos to rectify the company's financial woes. Stockes is initially incredulous and worried about the consequences of such a plan, especially with a well-known detective, Bobby Dodd, involved in the investigation. As Voß elaborates on his cunning strategy, it becomes clear that this narrative will combine elements of crime, wit, and a race against time, drawing readers into a world of suspense and intrigue.
