Over There with the Canadians at Vimy Ridge

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a defining moment for Canada, four divisions of young men climbing into history on a cold April morning in 1917. This book captures that pivotal moment through the eyes of Private Irving Ellis, a soldier whose journey through the trenches brings readers face to face with the brutal realities of the First World War. The narrative opens in a listening post under heavy bombardment, where Ellis and his fellow soldiers wait in darkness, the earth trembling around them. Beyond the immediate horrors of trench warfare, the story weaves in threads of military intrigue, betrayal and espionage within the ranks threaten to undermine the already precarious survival of these men. Written in 1919, while the war's memory still burned fresh, this account offers a window into how soldiers processed their experience and what they carried home.
