A novel written in the early 20th century. The narrative centers around Vladja, a teenage boy returning home after four years away and reflecting on his childhood memories, particularly of his close relationship with Marinka. The book explores themes of nostalgia, loss, and the transition from childhood to adolescence through Vladja's emotional journey. The opening of the novel introduces Vladja as he travels through familiar landscapes, reminiscing about his past and contemplating the changes that have occurred over the years. He is filled with a mixture of excitement and anxiety about reuniting with his family and Marinka, whom he has not seen since he left. The narrative alternates between his observations of the unchanged surroundings and his internal thoughts about the people he once knew, particularly Marinka, whose presence looms large in his memories. As he approaches home, Vladja's mix of eagerness and trepidation foreshadows the complexity of reconnecting with his past and the inevitability of change that comes with growing up.
