Niobe, All Smiles: A Farcical Comedy in Three Acts

When the Dunn family acquires an ancient statue of Niobe, they hardly expect her to step down from her pedestal and join their household. But that's exactly what happens in Harry Paulton's gleefully absurd Victorian farce, where classical mythology collides with suburban domesticity in spectacularly confused fashion. Peter Dunn, already exhausted from managing his critical wife Helen and their children, finds his life upended by this elegant ancient figure who speaks exclusively in poetic blank verse and flops dramatically across furniture. The comedy erupts from delicious mismatch: Niobe's timeless grandeur meets the mundane anxieties of a Victorian family准备出门看戏, her grandiose declarations baffling the servants and relatives who can barely keep up. Paulton understood that the deepest humor lives in collision, and this play lets the ancient world crash into the parlor with magnificent chaos. It's farce at its purest, where a mythological figure becomes an unmanageable houseguest and domestic life transforms into comedic catastrophe.
